Applying for a Marriage License
Residency:
You do not have to be a resident of Florida.
Identification:
A picture ID such as a driver's license and your Social Security
card or a valid passport number or I-94 card is required. You may
be asked for a certified copy of your birth certificate.
Age:
To apply for a marriage license, you and your significant other
must be at least 18 years of age.
Waiting Period:
There is a 3-day waiting period after applying for your marriage
license. If you have taken a state sanctioned marriage preparation
course within the last 12 months, there is no waiting period. Second Marriage:
If you have been married previously, the date of your divorce or date of your spouse's death must be supplied. If the divorce or spouse's death occurred within the past 30 days, a certified copy of the divorce decree or death certificate is required.
Fees:
There is a $93.50 fee for applying. Check with the courthouse in
your county to see if they accept credit cards, personal checks or
cash. If you and your significant other attended a state
sanctioned marriage prep course, this fee may be discounted. The
course is a four-hour course to improve communication, financial
and parenting skills before marriage.
For more information, contact the courthouse in
the county where you are located. A marriage license in Florida is
issued by a county court judge or a clerk of the circuit court.
